Goal
Hydro-Québec offers scholarships for excellence to students enrolled at Polytechnique Montréal for 2024-2025 in a master's (professional or research) or doctoral program. The scholarships are open to students of all engineering disciplines. The candidate's research project must be related to sustainable development and energy.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, ten (10) scholarships will be offered, for a total of $160,000, distributed as follows:
- Master's (2nd cycle): four $10,000 scholarships
- Doctorate (3rd cycle): six $20,000 scholarships
These scholarships cover a single year and will be paid out in two instalments, the first in fall 2024 and the second in winter 2025.

Application deadline
Applications can be received until June 30, 2024 at 11:59 pm. Applicants will be informed of the acceptance of their application at the end of summer 2024.
Eligibility criteria
Criteria common to all cycles
- Enrolment: at the time of application, enrolment in a master's (professional or research) or doctoral program at Polytechnique for the fall 2024 semester is mandatory ;
- Study status: candidates must be enrolled full-time;
- Citizenship status: the candidate must be Canadian or a permanent resident at the time of application;
- Candidates may not be remunerated from the budget of a research chair funded by Hydro-Québec;
- Cumulative awards, excluding this award where applicable, may not exceed $30,000 on an annual basis.
Additional criteria specific to the Master's degree
Completion of a maximum of 3 sessions (excluding the 2024 winter session).
Additional criteria specific to doctorate
Have completed a maximum of 8 sessions (excluding the winter 2024 session).
Selection criteria
The Trottier Energy Institute (TEI) will evaluate applications on the basis of :
- The excellence of the academic record (≥3.5/4)
- Relevance of the research project to the field of study
- Quality and interest of the research project
- Research aptitude and relevant research experience

Transcripts: attach most recent transcript and transcript of previous level of study (in the case of a master's degree: transcript of bachelor's degree, and in the case of a doctorate: transcript of master's degree).

Announcement of competition results
Candidates will be notified of the outcome of this competition by email in late summer 2024.
Frequently asked questions
How many times can my scholarship be renewed? A Master's student's scholarship can be renewed once, and a PhD student's scholarship a maximum of twice. However, renewal is not automatic. A complete new application must be submitted by the candidate to obtain a renewal. The selection committee will not give priority to a candidate who has already received a Hydro-Québec bursary in the previous year.
When will payments be made for the bursary awarded? Bursaries will be paid out in two installments, the first in fall 2024 and the second in winter 2025.
